Sausalito to San Francisco ~ Riding the Ferry ~
We’re headed back to San Francisco in this post, via the Sausalito Ferry. Yes, we are 424 miles away from Disneyland. Let’s enjoy our little getaway, shall we? yes.
don’t rock the boat~!

“Security Notice … . .. MARSEC LEVEL 1″
hmm… wonder what that means…
oh I checked on wikipedia. It’s the same as the color coded stuff you see at airports saying how unsafe it is to fly, even though it’s the same as it’s always been. just meaningless stuff to scare you. ignores~
“To THE FERRY BUILDING.” Look at how they extended the walls of the doors there so nobody could climb onto the walkway. Seeing them park dock the ferry boat was interesting. They went up along side the dock and then turned and moved horizontally. weird. I didn’t even take pics of it, it was so interesting to see.

people getting off the Ferry
Lot’s of people, all well dressed. They must live in Sausalito?

one of the people on the boat told the people waiting in line that everyone can board the ferry and at the conclusion of the trip you need a ticket to get off. Actually you can get off the ferry onto land and buy a ticket at the station to exit the station.

a lot of people had bikes, they just went in like everyone else. Down the ramp, up the ramp and into the vessel.
My mom sat at the little table and I went to explore the ship.
It looked nice. As she was getting settled I noticed I was leaning in different directions. I noticed that the ferry boat does sway slightly even when docked.

We are now preparing for departure.
they didn’t ask anyone to do anything, I was hesitant to stand but then I saw people walking around doing whatever they wanted so I did.

this huge cargo ship passed in front of the bay bridge, Alcatraz and then the san francisco skyline…

the golden gate there.
dark because the sun was back there and it was really bright

It seemed like out of nowhere this huge cargo ship appeared. It startled me. I guess a lot of them pass through the bay waters really often.
I think it created some waves because I remember some time around after it passed the boat nearly made me trip. It bounced.

Alcatraz island on the left, Transamerica pyramid behind it. Big ship on the right.
Me behind the camera.

The “Horizon Hunter from “wilmington, delaware”? is that correct?
anyway I think its headed toward the golden gate bridge.

alcatraz island. You can see the water tower there. Transamerica Pyramid on the far left of this picture. Alcatraz was shut down because it was too expensive to run. They gave prisoners warm showers and foods to make them bloated so they would lose interest in escaping.

they call it “the Rock”
Golden Gate bridge back there.

the cold cold pacific ocean water…

looking back at the little bell on the front of this big ship. San Francisco skyline bokehed out. bokah or bokeh?
eh.

this little flag on the front of the ship was flapping wildly the whole trip. It was windy. This is not photoshop-ed. The polarizer filter was doing its job!

nother look at the bell. Behind it, is the Bay Bridge which links San Francisco to Oakland. The Golden Gate links San Francisco to Sausalito. The Bay Bridge was the one that didn’t fare so well in the last big earthquake. Part of it collapsed. Look to the right of the bell, you can see construction on a new building. I think it’s the one they say will be the tallest building west of the Mississippi. It’s going to be the tallest building in the whole area for sure and will totally change the San Francisco skyline….forever. Cool.

there were a few tourists like me, but very few. Everyone else seemed to want to stay inside the ferry. It was windy throughout the entire ride. I mean strong constant wind on your face and hands. No water spray but after a while your hands freeze up.
by the end my hands were cold and tired.
my clicker finger hurt.

almost there…
the bad thing about transamerica is they don’t allow tourists to go up the elevators. You can only stay in the lobby. They used to have remote control cameras on arcade game-like machines, you could control(the cameras were on top of the building), but last time we went they were remodeling it. We didn’t go this time so who knows if they put the arcade machines back in.

“Port of San Francisco” that is the ferry building. Note the shape and size of it. We’ll see it later on from inside!

almost there…prepare for docking maneuvers!
standby….standby….initiate docking maneuvers!
hmm kay so I thought I had an extra pic
but I remember now. I didn’t take any more pictures because the ship docked. I go in to look for my mom and then we can’t find the way out. there were a bunch of bicyclists and not one sign telling you which way to get out. They changed the way to get out. It wasn’t the same. Wouldn’t hurt to put up some signs somewhere.

Now we are inside the Historic Ferry Building in the Embarcadero in San Francisco, CA
Very nice.

now we’re walking out of the ferry building. Plush monkey there…
oh I think he wants to say something..shhhhhh..

“People, we are about to cross the street.” – Plush Monkey (PM)

“Look there’s traffic. we have to be careful an look both ways.” – Plush Monkey

“I hate to stop your conversation, but crossing the street is serious business.” – PM

A San Francisco circular poster/mini billboard display.

these are all over the city. Kinda neat. they don’t rotate though and they only contain printed ads. Not video, yet.

“I wouldn’t go in there, ever, because if you go in there and people start looking at the map then when you come out of there you have to admit that you were in there for a reason. It would be embarrassing to say the least. Even for me.” – Plush Monkey

“Riding B.A.R.T. back to the East Bay is difficult, especially when you’re a plush monkey.” – Plush Monkey.
All the pics that weren’t posted you can see below in the gallery~ :I
